Theorized in 1932 by Jan Oort
It was theorized in 1932 by the Dutch astronomer Jan Oort and the Estonian astronomer Ernst Ípik, that a spherical cloud of asteroid objects surrounds the solar system up to a distance of close to a light year.
The cloud is theorized to be made up of two nested parts, an inner part that extends for less than a third of it, and a larger outer sphere. The Sun, located deep within it, is just a tiny speck.
